Risobook is a group exhibition and accompanying publication put together by The Holodeck print studio in Birmingham UK; a speciality Risograph and letterpress workshop founded in 2013. Artefact Projects, where the exhibition will take place, is a co-operatively minded artspace and cafe in Stirchley (Birmingham), which hosts a varied and interesting programme of art, performance, and community events.
This is an an open-call for participants; Artists, Illustrators, Designers, Writers - whatever your label or pronoun, from wherever you are in the universe, join us! Whether you are already experienced with Risograph, or have wanted to try but have not had access before.
Risobook will be an annual event and each edition will have a loose theme to provide a focus for exploration. Importantly, it costs nothing to enter and is a not-for-profit project.
50 pieces of work will be included in the first issue.
We have decided to run Risobook for a few reasons - to offer a platform for people who can't afford to get their work self-published, or are struggling with traditional routes of publication; to demystify the cult of Risograph and celebrate its accessibility and charm; and to foster a sense of community between Risograph enthusiasts - without the hindrance of commercial or educational constraints. Most of all it should be a lot of fun to take part.
